Foundation ASONIC
Our school helps the Foundation ASONIC (Asociation of parents whose children have cancer) composed by parents whose children have cancer disease.
Besides being the director of the language school La Lengua and doctor in psycology, I’m a voluntary and work as a psyco-oncologist giving a psycologic support to the patients and the families of the ASONIC during all the phases of cancer. I track cases for treatments and work with children and parents giving occupational therapy workshops in order to overcome the difficult situation having a child with this terrible illness.
ASONIC has a hostel called “Casa de Beto” that provides free accommodation to children and young people with cancer together with their parents who come from other provinces and are economically disadvantaged and have nowhere to stay in Quito.
The hostel makes it possible for parents to accompany their children during the whole medical treatment they receive in various public hospitals of Quito.
The Foundation ASONIC is supported by donations and voluntary work of people who wish to contribute for a good cause. Also, students, during or after their Spanish course, can do voluntary work where they have the opportunity to practise their conversation skills and are able to accompany the families to the treatment or work in occupational therapy workshops.
